JULIEN MACDONALD SPRING/SUMMER 2010
With his mind on mermaids and scuba gear, Julien Macdonald was certainly reveling in the life aquatic this season. Macdonald, known widely as a couturier, tempered his impulses to embellish, instead opting to showcase a delicate palette of white, beige, black and red, showcasing his minimalist tendencies. He is clearly fond of mesh inserting, sleek shapes and a tightened silhouette. Nothing looked mishandled. And while the slim, hard and fast biker rebel is the current catwalk idol, Macdonald dreamed up something else to supplement the current fad. The paillette gowns in particular allowed us to become lost in the most spectacular reverie, something which comes at the just the right time for London, which apparently this season seems overly preoccupied with knits. Macdonald's pieces are fit for women who incline toward a certain kind of freshness and athleticism, but who refuse to sacrifice a little bit of magic, daydreams and flights of fancy.
